About Domain Rating

What is Domain Rating (DR)?+
Domain Rating (DR) is an Ahrefs metric that shows the strength of a website's backlink profile on a 100-point logarithmic scale. A higher DR means more and stronger sites are linking to it.
What is a good Domain Rating?+
DR varies heavily by niche. A DR of 40–60 is solid for most sites. Brand-new domains start at 0–5, while established authority sites can reach 80+. Focus on improving your own DR over time rather than chasing a specific number.
How is DR calculated?+
Ahrefs calculates DR based on the number of unique websites linking to your domain and the DR of those linking sites. It's a logarithmic scale, so moving from 70 to 80 requires far more links than moving from 10 to 20.
How often does DR update?+
Ahrefs updates Domain Rating continuously as their crawler discovers new and lost backlinks across the web.
Is DR the same as Domain Authority?+
No. Domain Authority (DA) is a Moz metric. Domain Rating (DR) is Ahrefs' equivalent. Both score 0–100 and measure backlink strength, but they use different calculations and crawl data so scores can differ.
