You can run a full SEO audit without ever leaving Claude — once you connect DidYouSEO as a tool it can call. It takes about two minutes and there are no API keys to copy or rotate. Here's exactly how.

This guide walks through how to connect DidYouSEO to Claude using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), so you can audit any URL, pull a prioritized fix list, and use SEO tools like schema and robots.txt checks right inside the chat. There's a short video below, then the written steps and a troubleshooting section.

What you'll need

  • Claude — the web app or desktop app. Custom connectors are available on Claude's paid plans (Pro and above).
  • A DidYouSEO account — the free plan works. You'll sign in during setup; the free URL tools work even without one.

That's it. No tokens, no config files. Sign-in happens through a secure browser prompt (OAuth), the same way "Sign in with Google" works elsewhere.

How to connect DidYouSEO to Claude

Step 1: Open Claude's connector settings

In Claude, open Settings → Connectors. This is where Claude manages the external tools it's allowed to use.

Step 2: Add a custom connector

Click Add custom connector. Give it a name — "DidYouSEO" — and paste the server URL:

https://didyouseo.com/mcp

That URL is the DidYouSEO MCP server — a secure endpoint Claude connects to. (If you're curious how this works under the hood, we cover it in MCP for SEO.)

Step 3: Sign in

Claude will open a browser prompt to sign in with your DidYouSEO account and approve access. Approve it. Claude now holds a scoped token tied to your account, which you can revoke anytime from Claude's connector settings — there's nothing to manage on your end.

Step 4: Run your first audit

Start a new chat and ask in plain language:

Run a DidYouSEO audit on my homepage, then give me the top 3 things to fix.

Claude discovers the available tools on its own, runs the audit, reads the structured results, and hands you a ranked list — no dashboard, no exports. That's the whole point of an AI SEO agent: the work happens in the conversation you're already in.

What you can do once it's connected

Connected, Claude can call any of DidYouSEO's tools as a normal request:

  • Run an SEO audit on any URL and get a prioritized fix list
  • Check your scores for a whole site or a single page
  • Inspect the technicals — meta tags, robots.txt, structured data, SERP appearance, Core Web Vitals, Open Graph, hreflang
  • Manage sites in your account

A few prompts to try:

Is my robots.txt blocking any search engines?
Validate the structured data on my pricing page.
Preview how my latest blog post looks in Google search.

Troubleshooting

"Add custom connector" isn't showing up. Custom connectors require a paid Claude plan (Pro or higher). On the free tier the option is hidden.

The sign-in window didn't open, or failed. Make sure pop-ups aren't blocked, then remove and re-add the connector so it re-runs the sign-in. The connection uses standard OAuth 2.1 over HTTPS, so a corporate proxy that strips redirects can interfere.

Claude says it can't find the tools. Confirm the URL is exactly https://didyouseo.com/mcp (not /mcp-server, which is the marketing page). Then start a fresh chat — Claude discovers tools when a connector is active at the start of a conversation.

It works, but I want a human to double-check. Good instinct. Claude is excellent at reading and drafting and can still hallucinate a fix, so validate anything before it ships — run drafted schema through Google's Rich Results Test and keep the deploy decision yours. Google's own SEO fundamentals are the bar to check against.

Does this work with ChatGPT and Cursor too?

Yes. MCP is an open standard maintained at modelcontextprotocol.io, so the same https://didyouseo.com/mcp server connects to any MCP-capable client — ChatGPT and Cursor included. The steps differ only in where each app hides its connector settings. Claude's are documented in Anthropic's help center.

Connect it now

The fastest way to see it work is to do it. Grab the URL from the AI SEO agent page, paste it into Claude, and ask it to audit your site — or run a free DidYouSEO audit first to see the data it'll be working from.

FAQ

How do I connect DidYouSEO to Claude? Open Claude's Settings → Connectors, click Add custom connector, paste https://didyouseo.com/mcp, and sign in with your DidYouSEO account when prompted. Then ask Claude to run an audit on any URL — it discovers the tools automatically.

Do I need an API key to connect DidYouSEO to Claude? No. The connection uses OAuth: you paste the server URL, a browser sign-in links your account, and Claude holds a scoped token you can revoke anytime. There are no API keys to copy or rotate.

Why can't I see "Add custom connector" in Claude? Custom connectors are available on Claude's paid plans (Pro and above). On the free tier the option is hidden, so you'll need to upgrade to add one.

Is it safe to connect DidYouSEO to Claude? Yes. Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 over HTTPS, the token is scoped to your own account, and read-only tools are labeled separately from ones that change data. Keep a human in the loop for anything that ships changes to your site.

Does the DidYouSEO connector cost extra? No. It uses the same account and plan limits as the rest of DidYouSEO — the free plan works, and account tools count against your normal limits. There's no separate charge for connecting over MCP.
